A good signature image is the difference between a professional signed PDF and a crooked phone photo with a grey box around your name. Three ways to get a signature image

1. Generate one in the browser

Open the signature generator. Type your name and try a few script styles, or switch to draw mode and sign with a finger on a phone or a mouse on a desktop. Download the PNG when the shape looks like something you would actually put on paper.

2. Photograph a real pen signature

Sign on clean white paper with a dark pen. Photograph from directly above in even light, crop tightly, and remove the background if you can so only the ink remains. This option matches wet-ink habits and often looks the most natural on formal letters.

3. Reuse a signature you already have

Some people already have a PNG from a previous job or from another app. If it has a white box, recreate it with a transparent background before you save it for PDF use — the box is what makes digital signatures look amateur.

Make it look intentional on the page

Crop tight. Extra empty margin forces you to place a huge transparent rectangle just to get the ink large enough.
Prefer transparent PNG. Signature lines and underlines should show through empty areas of the image.
Keep contrast high. Light grey stylus strokes disappear when the PDF is printed in black and white.
Create initials separately. A full signature is often too wide for a small initial box on each page of a contract.

Place the image on a PDF

Open Stamp & Sign and choose the PDF.
Click + Add and select your signature PNG.
Click the signature line (or the initial box). Drag and resize so the mark matches the space — default placement is often larger than a typical line needs.
Check every page you marked, then download the stamped PDF. The original file is left alone.

Legal and practical limits (plain language)

A pasted signature image is a common form of electronic signature for everyday business. Whether it is enough depends on the document type, the other party, and local rules. It does not by itself prove who clicked, and it does not seal the file against later edits the way a certificate-based digital signature does.

For property transfers, some government filings, and other high-stakes acts, ask the recipient what they accept before you rely on an image. StampAPDF is built for practical visual signing and stamping, not for issuing cryptographic certificates.

Privacy note about saved stamps

When you add an image to the Stamp & Sign library so you can reuse it, that image is stored for the tool's library feature. Treat library images as shared tooling rather than a private vault — do not save a signature you would be uncomfortable seeing in a shared library, and delete images you no longer need. ▸What file format works best on a PDF?

A transparent PNG. The signature ink sits on the page without a white box covering the line underneath. JPG is usable but cannot carry transparency, so white backgrounds often show.

▸Is a signature image the same as a digital certificate signature?

No. An image shows a visual mark. A certificate-based digital signature also binds identity and detects later changes to the file. Everyday email agreements often accept an image; some banks, governments, and courts require a stronger method.

▸How large should the PNG be?

Wide enough to look sharp when placed on a signature line — roughly 800–1,200 pixels across is plenty. Huge multi-megapixel photos of a signature only slow the editor down and get scaled anyway.
